Mr Fred Mbugua Kinyanjui, the online editor of the Nation Media Group’s Business Daily newspaper has died.
Mr Kinyanjui died on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Kenyatta Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. News of his death was received with shock by his family, colleagues and friends.
“Fred was one of journalism’s finest minds. A quiet man who understood journalism’s mission in its broadest sense and applied himself to it. We in BD have suffered a great loss in his death,” said Business Daily managing editor Ochieng’ Rapuro.
Mr Kinyanjui, 41, was recently diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment in the United States (US) before returning to Kenya two weeks ago.
His condition deteriorated thereafter leading to his admission at Nairobi’s Aga Khan University Hospital and at Kenyatta National Hospital where he passed on.
Fred attended Alliance High School and later proceeded to the University of Nairobi where he graduated in 1997 as a trained teacher of accounting and economics.
He started his journalism career as a contributor for the Daily Nation’s Saturday magazine.
Mr Kinyanjui formally joined the Nation Media Group as a writer for the Saturday Magazine in 1998 and worked as the magazine’s copy editor until 2004 when he moved to the Standard Group and rose through the ranks to become the managing editor of the Saturday paper.
The latest leg of his career at Nation Media Group began in March 2014 when he was hired as the editor in charge of the Business Daily’s online platform.
