Funeral Fundraiser for Kevin Kabogo of Columbus Ohio

$

0

Let me tell you about Kevin Kabogo. He was the best eldest brother one could ever ask for.   We looked up to him both in stature and character. He was creative, intelligent, loving, chef extraordinaire, health conscious, an avid reader and  freelance web designer.

His  had a passion for stories from an African perspective and curated  African music via his website(  http://africanwriterscenter.com)

Our last conversation with him, was in regards to him returning to Kenya permanently, on 30th August, to continue with web design,  his passion for sustainable farming and reunite with his only son after 20 years.   Despite his desire, he was unable to make it for our Dad’s funeral, about a year ago.  Sadly now the best we can is lay him to rest next to Dad.

The shocking news of his sudden death tragically  cut short his anticipated homecoming.   Words can’t explain the pain of having him come home this way.

Our family is kindly reaching out to you to help us  raise the funds to meet the cost  to facilitate his return to Kenya  from Columbus, Ohio.

Your kind assistance is highly appreciated.

To donate, please do so here https://www.gofundme.com/kevin-kabogo-funeral-fundraising

Thank you for taking time to read this and for your support,

Kimani, Amos, David and Ruth (formerly of Dallas Fort Worth, TX)

Following the death of Benjamin Nzavi and his 11 year old daughter Tamia, who drowned at Lake Whitney in Hill County, Texas, a committee under the umbrella of Kenya Diaspora Advisory Council of Texas and comprising friends from other parts of the United States has been formed.

This committee has agreed to help facilitate Ben’s mother and brother as they attempt to get visas from Kenya and travel to attend the funerals, which are set to take place in Texas on Wednesday, May 31st.

Arrangements are ongoing, but we are appealing to our community to mobilize and help fund raise for the travel cost.  We have very little time and must act quickly.  Any additional funds raised above and beyond the visa and travel expenses will be used to meet the needs of Ben’s family during such a difficult time.  Everyone in our community matters.

We are indivisible and united at times like this and are committed to doing whatever it takes to help Ben’s mother come to honor her son and and her granddaughter.

The committee appeals to all of us to participate in whatever way possible.

A gofundme.com account has been set up and you can follow this link to contribute https://www.gofundme.com/travelfundforngusye

The bodies of a Kenyan man and his 11-year-old daughter have been retrieved from a Texas lake where they drowned.

Benjamin Nzavi and the girl drowned at around 11.30am on Saturday morning in Lake Whitney, about 130 kilometres from the city of Dallas.

Eyewitnesses said Mr Nzavi’s daughter ran into the water to swim and went under. Her father then jumped into the water to rescue her but both never resurfaced.

Tamia John was celebrating her 11th birthday on the fateful day and was swimming with friends when she was pulled too deep by currents.

A boater called the authorities when he failed to rescue the two.

A search that began at about 2.45pm went on until nightfall and had to be called off because of poor visibility.

The search resumed on Sunday morning and divers found the bodies a few feet from each other.

The family had just moved to the area two weeks earlier and were living a short distance from the lake.

Mr Nzavi’s pregnant wife Schivvone John had arrived in the US from the UK a few weeks earlier. The couple also has a 14 month old child

Mr Nzavi was a ballistics engineer in Milford, Texas, where he was working after graduating with a degree in chemical and explosives engineering.

At the time of his death, he was pursuing a master’s degree in explosives engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

My name is Kennedy Okomo. I am a Kenyan in Atlanta, Georgia and I just graduated from Kennesaw State University.

I was delighted to have the company of my father Eli Okomo, 69 and my mother who had flown from Kenya to Atlanta, Georgia to attend my graduation.

Since they arrived in the country three weeks ago, we have spent time catching up on the last three years we’ve been apart.

It was a double celebration for me as my wife and I had just welcomed our new born baby five months ago. They were overjoyed to meet our new addition.

Heartbreakingly, on Thursday (May 25th) my dad suffered a heart attack and died while being rushed to the hospital.

Our family requires your assistance in raising the $20,000 (Sh2.06 million) require to pay for the morgue fees and for taking the body back home in Kenya. We greatly appreciate any contribution you are able to make.

If you would like to assist, a gofundme account has been set up and can be found here https://www.gofundme.com/my-dads-sudden-death

A Kenyan family is seeking assistance in raising funds to help repatriate the body of their kin who drowned in a South Carolina river back to Kenya.

Fred Ochieng Babu, 35, passed away of June 18th after an accidental drowning in Congaree river in South Carolina.

He was swimming near the Gervais Street when he became distressed and went missing around 11am.

At the time of his drowning, Babu was with three other swimmers when they became overwhelmed by the river.

One of the swimmers was able to get to some nearby rocks while the other two were helped by a person who was nearby who noticed they were in trouble.

Babu however went underwater and was not seen again until he was retrieved by the search crew which included dive teams, boats and a helicopter.

Babu has left behind a young daughter and as you can imagine, the family is grieving right now and have a long journey ahead of them.

Their immediate need is to have his remains repatriated from Columbia, South Carolina to his final resting place in Kenya.

Funeral expenses are only the beginning for this family.

If you can, please help them at this time of need.

You can contribute through this gofundme account link..https://www.gofundme.com/fund-raiser-for-fred-babu

Kenyan mum furious after son denied dedication ceremony by church because she is single

A single Kenyan mum in Mombasa is furious that her church is discriminating against her son by denying him the dedication rite due to her marital status.

The woman, identified as Wanjiku cried foul when her church declined to dedicate her one and a half year old son because she is unmarried.

She says that the church informed her of the last minute cancellation letting her know that her son would not participate in the dedication ceremony.

The dedication ceremony is a symbolic rite which affirms that the parents of the children being dedicated will raise them in the Christian faith and in ways that align with the teachings of the faith.

Wanjiku says she was informed of the decision that her son had been sidelined even though she had been a faithful member of the church for four years and had even attended the dedication classes.

She says that she was called in to the church office by the pastor’s wife and was asked why she was unmarried and as to the whereabouts of the baby’s father.

She says she explained that the baby’s father was away working in Sudan and that they were planning on getting married in the near future.

However, the church refused to go ahead with the ceremony for the boy until they could talk directly to his father.

She says she was told it was wrong to get pregnant yet she served in some of the church’s ministries. She said that she was told that she should be teaching those young members how to stay moral and not getting pregnant.

Wanjiku took to Facebook to voice her frustrations but took the post down after some of the church members came down heavily on her and prompting her mum to ask her to take the post down.
