Death Announcement: Ruth Achieng of Los Angeles who passed away in Duluth, Georgia

$

On Friday January 27th, 2017 we lost Ruth Achieng, a dedicated mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Ruth finally succumbed to a two year long battle with Stage 3 breast, and Stage 4 bone cancer, that had her travel from LA to Atlanta, in her final days, to spend vital time with her immediate family; Her son Eric, her daughter-in-law, Brenda, and her three grandsons, Sam, William and Patrick.

She was first diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in January 2015, and went into remission mid-November 2015. In February 2016, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 bone cancer, which quickly spread throughout her body.

She has endured through 11 months of constant pain and medical attention which bore a very heavy psychological, emotional and financial strain on her and her family. In Decmeber 2016,  she bravely decided to fly to Atlanta, on her own, to spend Christmas with her immediate family.

Out of sheer will and determination, she managed to spend a wonderful Christmas with her family. Then 2 days after Christmas, in the early evening of Tuesday December 27th, she fell very ill, and paramedics had to visit the home of Eric and Brenda, to rush her to Gwinnett Medical Center, Duluth, where she was admitted into the ICU.

She spent 16 days in the ICU where doctors ran a battery of tests, only to finally confirm that her condition was terminal.

The hope, faith, joy and positivity Ruth exuded while at Gwinnett Medical Center, in the face of unbearable pain, was simply incredible. The very first thing she would ask friends and family who came to see her was how they were doing and feeling, and how they slept last night. She was so very positive, brave and strong.

On Thursday January 12th, 2017, Ruth was transfered to the Wellstar Tranquility Hospice in Kennesaw, GA, where on January 27th, after 15 days of a very spirited individual fight with the disease, she finally succumbed to the terrible cancer throughout her body.

We know she be is now with our Lord, and will be ready to welcome us all into eternity, asking us how we are feeling, and how was our journey, when each of us reaches our final hour.

May the good Lord rest her soul in eternal peace.

Funeral Fund for Stephen ‘Mitu’ Githehu brother to Jane Mukami

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic and unexpected death of Jane Mukami’s brother, Stephen ‘Mitu’ Githehu.

This has truly been the most challenging week of her life after losing her grandmother on February 11th then her brother on February 16th.

Here is more information from Jane about her brother Stephen.

Everybody referred to Mitu as a cool and funny guy. He served in the USA army between 2010 and 2014 before enrolling for a degree program at Kennesaw State University.

He started acting strange in 2015; he wouldn’t leave his apartment and his social life dwindled. He shunned his family and friends. He wouldn’t open the door for his only sister neither would he answer his phone or reply to messages. After months of locking himself in, the sister called the cops who went to his apartment and reported that he was clean shaven and looked “normal.” He told the cops to tell his family to leave him alone. But clearly something was wrong with Mitu…

His mother flew down from Kenya in November 2016 and she knocked on his door daily for weeks, but he wouldn’t open for her. She was devastated. The family tried everything, from going to the court to seek a 1013 certificate which authorizes transportation of a person that appears mentally ill, but that didn’t help because they needed 2 witnesses that had ‘laid eyes’/seen Stephen within 48 hours and observed irregular behavior. His mother and sister explained how he wouldn’t allow them to see him and that they had called the police several times. The court was not of much help. His mother flew back to Kenya very heartbroken from not seeing her son and feeling helpless for not being able to get any form of help.

Two weeks ago, he texted his sister out of the blue saying he was about to get evicted from his apartment. He asked if she wanted his paintings. She off course said yes and they were able to meet. At that point, Jane asked him, “where will you move to?” He said she would know soon enough. She asked him to move in with him but he refused. A few days later the sheriff and team showed up to evict him. As soon as they walked into his bedroom, he grabbed his gun and shot himself.

He leaves a confused and wounded family. He leaves behind questions nobody can answer. He leaves a crashed mother, sister and father.

Let us show our support for Jane and her family during this challenging time both in prayer and financial support as they prepare to lay Mitu to rest. We have set up a Funeral fundraiser to help contribute towards the funeral expenses.

All donations are highly appreciated.

Thank you for all your support.

Help needed as body of Kenyan man in Philadelphia likely to be tagged as unknown

Philadelphia USA: The Good People of Ekama, Mumias miss him dearly. So is Mwajuma, his only child – a kindergarten school teacher. We would never know how she felt when Philadelphia Hospital told her they couldn’t wait no more. They were disposing off her father’s remains marked as “unclaimed” – a word that could have meant “unloved” even “unwanted”.

Omar MMUBANGO arrived in the United States in September 1976 on F1 Student Visa. They called him Omar Murunga Mubango at the Univ. of Wisconsin River Falls and Univ of Minnesota.

He attended prayers at a Mosque. He fraternized with his kind for fate sat him among a West African brotherhood. He had friends – and neighbors too.

We know he had neighbors for his Apartment was on 1623 Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia. When it really mattered – no one stepped forward – he was forsaken for weeks at the mortuary of the Univ of Pennsylvania Hospital.

We know not of his Mosque, for we could have asked for help.

He had no Church for Jesus’ People could have rallied for one of their own.

Our Kenyan Embassy offered no help

But we know: Soldiers Never Abandon Their own

It is a classic sendoff: A man that led a mystery life gets a mystery send off

There are neither Committees nor Keshas for he we guess he wouldn’t have liked

We, the People of Kenya refuse to let them tag Omar as “Unclaimed”

We, the People of Kenya are determined to Ekama Village receive its son

We are all contributing, donating, offering, tithing and fundraising

Omar’s body is at the Watson Funeral Services, Jersey City, NJ

Nearly 40 per cent of needed funds have been raised.

A community appeal has been launched in Lowell, MA seeking to help in repatriating to body of Francis Kimani Gatua, 41, who was found dead on Friday night in his apartment back to Kenya for burial.

Mr. Gatua was discovered dead by his roommate after not being heard from for about 3 days.

A foul smell coming from his bedroom arose suspicion from his roommate and prompted him and a friend to check on him in his bedroom.

It was then that his body was found on the floor.

Kimani has no close family here in the States and no church affiliation leaving a few friends and well wishers from the community helping with this process.

The community at large is being asked to help raise $25,000.00 to help with the repatriation.

Francis has left behind a wife and three children who are looking forward to lay their loved one to rest.

Prayers are being held daily from  6pm to 0800pm at
367 Hildreth st Lowell MA Apt No-31 (please park at the park behind the apartments)

Memorial / Fundraising will be held next Sunday 4/23/2017 @ Ushindi PCEA Church beginning at 0300PM

Wake will be on Tuesday 4/25/2017 @ C.C.F church in Lowell MA from 0600P to 0800P.
